Charcoal Posy Tapestry

Charcoal Posy Tapestry

This piece is an inspired draft taken from Mary Atwater's Shuttle Craft Book.

The woven tapestry tells a story of an old world in modern times. A dark charcoal color emits emotion, depicting the posy design that may have been a textile seen in 1800's America, while the use of raw natural hemp displays the qualities of an ancient textile.

Today the need to create cloth that reinforces our relationship with nature, and perhaps looks back at the old way, may answer some of the sustainability problems we face.

Handwoven in New York with cotton and hemp.
